business location, but
then what do they do?
Nothing. At Access Computer
Services we will connect
your company no matter

Internet
Security
The openness of the Internet
has created a whole new
set of security requirements.
You have to shield data
from hackers. You have
to ensure the integrity
of your networks. You
have to protect e-transactions
traveling through cyber-space.
You have to authenticate
parties you don't know.
And, you have to make
data available quickly
and easily to all who
need or want to use it.
Moreover, e-business is
changing the way businesses
operate. Tools like the
Internet, intranets, and
extranets are revolutionizing
the way we communicate
with each other. Although
e-business presents seemingly
endless opportunities,
it also poses major challenges
- particularly in the
area of security. To be
truly successful in e-business,
your organization must
ensure the security of
your information assets.

Firewalls
The most common deterrent
for unwanted hackers or
users in place today is
the Firewall.
The Firewall system is
designed to prevent unauthorized
access to or from a private
network. Firewalls can
be implemented in both
hardware and software,
or a combination of both.
Firewalls are frequently
used to prevent unauthorized
Internet users from accessing
private networks connected
to the Internet, especially
intranets. All messages
entering or leaving the
intranet pass through
the firewall, which examines
each message and blocks
those that do not meet
the specified security
criteria.
Integrating
Network Security and Peace
of Mind
Firewalls and VPNs, Server
Security, and Desktop
Defense: today's network
security needs are complex.
You need security systems
built around a comprehensive
protection strategy that
safeguards your network's
critical points, lets
you manage your security
with ease, and keeps you
informed and prepared
for new threats.

There
are several types of firewall
techniques
Packet filter: Looks at
each packet entering or
leaving the network and
accepts or rejects it
based on user-defined
rules. Packet filtering
is fairly effective and
transparent to users,
but it is difficult to
configure. In addition,
it is susceptible to IP
spoofing.
Application gateway: Applies
security mechanisms to
specific applications,
such as FTP and Telnet
servers. This is very
effective, but can create
performance degradation.
Circuit-level gateway:
Applies security mechanisms
when a TCP or UDP connection
is established. Once the
connection has been made,
packets can flow between
the hosts without further
checking.
Proxy server: Intercepts
all messages entering
and leaving the network.
The proxy server effectively
hides the true network
addresses.
In
practice, many firewalls
use two or more of these
techniques in concert.
A
firewall is considered
a first line of defense
in protecting private
information. For greater
security, data can be
encrypted.
